A long, beautiful drive up the Tons valley. Gear check and briefing at the Sankri guesthouse in the evening.

Day 02Sankri → Juda Ka Talab

Four hours through oak and pine to a frozen lake at 9,100 ft. First night in a tent, and the first proper snow for most of the batch.

Day 03Juda Ka Talab → Kedarkantha base

A shorter day up to 11,250 ft, so the afternoon is free for the snow fight that always happens. Early dinner — tomorrow starts in the dark.

Day 04Summit day → Hargaon

Head torches on at 3 AM. Three hours up in the cold and dark, and then the sun comes over Swargarohini while you're standing on the top. Down to Hargaon camp for the last night.

Day 05Down to Sankri → Dehradun

A knee-testing descent through the forest, lunch at Sankri, and the drive back to Dehradun by evening.

Do I need to be good at photos?
No. Roughly half the people who come can't work their own camera app, and by day three they can. That's the whole point of me being there.
Is it weird if I'm not on Instagram?
Genuinely no. Maybe a third of any batch doesn't post at all. Nobody's counting.
Will I actually get to talk to you?
You'll get sick of me. It's a Tempo Traveller for eight days — there's nowhere to hide.
What if I've never done altitude?
Neither had I. There's an acclimatisation night built into the Spiti route, and the captain watches everyone on day three. Drink more water than feels reasonable.
