From Cancelled Plans to Our First Big Trip: How We Finally Made It to Kedarnath

My name is Ayush, and if there is one thing my four friends and I are really good at, it is making travel plans.

And cancelling them.

And making new plans.

And cancelling those too.

For months, we had been talking about going somewhere together. Every few weeks, one of us would come up with a new destination.

"Let's go to Manali."

"Too expensive."

"Okay, then Rishikesh."

"Dates don't match."

"Let's do Kasol."

"Bro, exams are coming."

"Then let's go after exams."

"Actually, let's see."

And just like that, another plan disappeared.

We had a WhatsApp group full of travel ideas, Instagram reels, hotel screenshots and destination recommendations.

What we didn't have was an actual trip.

All five of us wanted to travel together, but somehow the trip never moved beyond the planning stage.

Until Kedarnath happened.

The Plan That Finally Survived

One evening, the conversation started again.

This time, someone said:

"What about Kedarnath?"

For a few seconds, nobody replied.

Then the usual questions started.

How much will it cost?

How many days?

How difficult is the trip?

Where will we stay?

How will we manage transportation?

Can everyone get leave?

But this time something was different.

Instead of cancelling the idea immediately, we actually started looking for a way to make it happen.

That's when we came across Tripwaley.

We started checking the details, itinerary, inclusions and trip plan.

The biggest relief for us was that we didn't have to figure out every little thing ourselves.

For a group planning its first proper trip together, that mattered a lot.

After all the discussions, calculations and "Are you guys actually coming?" messages, we finally booked it.

Five friends.

One destination.

And hopefully, one successful trip.

The Journey Finally Begins

I still remember the excitement when we finally started our journey.

It felt slightly unreal.

For so long, we had been saying, "We should go somewhere together."

Now we were actually on our way to Kedarnath.

The five of us were together, bags packed, phones charged, playlists ready and excitement at its peak.

Of course, we also had the usual arguments.

Who gets the window seat?

Who forgot something?

Where are we eating?

Which song should we play?

Basically, everything you would expect from five friends travelling together for the first time.

But honestly, that's what made it fun.

There was no pressure to make everything perfect.

We were simply happy that the plan had finally happened.

Meeting the Tripwaley Group

Once we connected with the Tripwaley group, the trip became even more interesting.

We were no longer travelling as just five friends.

There were other travellers too.

Initially, I wondered whether everyone would be comfortable together.

But travel has this strange ability to make people comfortable very quickly.

Within a short time, conversations started.

People introduced themselves.

Jokes started.

Everyone started discussing the journey ahead.

And slowly, the group didn't feel like a group of strangers anymore.

It felt like we were all part of one big trip.

The Mountains Finally Appeared

As we moved closer to the mountains, the excitement kept increasing.

The landscape outside the window started changing.

The roads became more dramatic.

The mountains appeared larger.

The air felt different.

And every few minutes, someone in our group would say:

"Bro, look at that!"

Then came the photographs.

Then more photographs.

Then someone would ask everyone to pose.

Then another person would say:

"Wait, I didn't get a good picture. One more!"

That was basically our routine.

We had come to Kedarnath for the journey, but apparently we had also come to create an unreasonable number of photographs.

The Journey Was Better Than We Expected

One thing I really appreciated about travelling with Tripwaley was that we didn't have to constantly worry about what was happening next.

The coordination was smooth.

The itinerary was clear.

The group was guided properly.

And whenever we had questions, there was someone to help.

For our first group trip, that made a huge difference.

We had previously imagined that travelling with a travel company might feel restrictive.

But it actually gave us the freedom to enjoy the journey without constantly worrying about logistics.

We could focus on the experience.

And that's exactly what we wanted.

Reaching Kedarnath

Then came the moment we had been waiting for.

Kedarnath.

Standing there in front of the mountains was something completely different from seeing it on a screen.

The scale of everything around us was incredible.

The mountains.

The weather.

The atmosphere.

The energy.

And then there was the feeling of actually being there with my four closest friends.

I remember looking at them and thinking about how many times we had cancelled plans.

All those failed trips had somehow led us here.

And suddenly, every cancelled plan felt worth it.

The Five of Us Had Our Own Little Adventure

One of my favourite things about the trip was how many small moments we created together.

We laughed at the most random things.

We teased each other.

We took terrible photographs.

Then took more photographs trying to get better ones.

We shared food.

We complained about being tired.

We encouraged each other.

And every few hours, someone would say:

"Guys, this is actually happening."

It was our first trip together.

That made every little moment feel important.

We knew this was something we would talk about later.

The Tough Parts Became the Best Memories

Of course, the journey wasn't perfect in the sense that everything was effortless.

There were moments when we were tired.

There were moments when the weather tested us.

There were moments when we just wanted to sit down and take a break.

But strangely, those became some of our favourite memories.

Because whenever one of us was struggling, the others were there.

"Come on."

"Let's go."

"Just a little more."

"Take a break and then we'll continue."

That's what travelling with friends teaches you.

You don't remember only the easy moments.

You remember the moments when everyone was tired but still laughing.

You remember helping each other.

You remember reaching a place together after struggling to get there.

The Temple Visit

And then came the moment that made the entire journey feel even more meaningful.

Standing at Kedarnath Temple was an experience that is difficult to describe in words.

After everything we had gone through to reach there, being in that atmosphere felt incredibly special.

For a few moments, all five of us became quiet.

No jokes.

No arguments.

No photographs.

Just taking in the moment.

It was peaceful.

And for me, that became one of the most memorable parts of the entire trip.

We Came Back With More Than We Took

Eventually, every trip has to end.

We started our return journey with tired bodies, full phone galleries and minds full of memories.

But there was one major difference.

We had actually done it.

The five of us had finally completed a trip together.

No cancellation.

No "maybe next month."

No "let's see."

We went.

We experienced it.

And we came back.

Successfully.

What Made This Trip Special?

Looking back, I don't think it was just Kedarnath that made the trip special.

It was everything together.

The excitement of finally travelling with my friends.

The beautiful mountain landscapes.

The new people we met.

The laughs.

The tired moments.

The photographs.

The temple visit.

The unexpected conversations.

And the fact that Tripwaley took care of the things we would otherwise have been worrying about.

For our first group trip, having the journey organised properly made the experience much more enjoyable.

We could simply be friends on a trip instead of five people constantly trying to organise a trip.

And that difference matters.

Our First Trip Was Finally Real

Before this journey, our travel group had a reputation.

We were the five friends who always planned trips but never actually went.

After Kedarnath, that changed.

Now we have a story.

Our first trip.

Our first big mountain journey.

Our first time travelling together.

And probably the first of many.

Because somewhere during those days, we realised something:

The best part of travelling with friends isn't just reaching the destination.

It's everything that happens between leaving home and coming back.

The random jokes.

The arguments.

The photographs.

The shared food.

The tired faces.

The unexpected friendships.

The moments nobody planned.

And the stories that stay with you long after the trip is over.

I'm Ayush.

And after making and cancelling countless plans with my four friends, we finally made one that actually happened.

Kedarnath wasn't just our destination.

It was the beginning of our travel story.

And honestly?

I wouldn't want our first trip to have happened any other way.
